Lavender

Morning y’all! I couldn’t help myself and wear a lavender dress to a lavender farm. Cheesy I know but that me! For an easy Sunday look I would switch out the boots for a pair of heels and throw on a dash of bling via a necklace. However, today I wanted to share more about what I experience rather than what I wore.

Here is about my recent trip to Lavender Ridge Farms. Friday was my last day before leaving for a mission trip and I wanted to spend the day with my girls relaxing. It is a bit ironic that we chose a Lavender farm because Lavender essential oil is what we use to help our girls relax at night.

Our oldest daughter, Lyianna, is five years old and has been asking questions about Lavender. Since I didn’t know much about Lavender we decided to read about it together. When we can we go see what we are learning and this was the perfect opportunity. I was able to find a local Lavender farm and so we planned this trip!

Although Lavender is not in full bloom until July and August I thought this was a better opportunity to visit due to the increasing heat here. It is a little over an hour drive from Fort Worth, Texas. This was a perfect length of time for a good nap which made for a peaceful and quiet drive for us mommies (or daddies).

Once we arrived I rolled the window down to take a photo of the entrance signage and I could immediately smell the fresh Lavender. It was amazing. I felt relaxed just breathing it in. We were then greeted by an adorable dog who seemed to be leading us to the parking area, lol.

The parking and entrance to the farm is free! You pick a basket, a pair of scissors, and head out into the field to pick. As you can see in the pictures picking and placing the lavender into a basket was my daughters favorite part. I let her pick to her hearts desire and then we fit as much lavender as we could into a bunch that had to be tied with bread bag tie. Each bunch is only $8, so this is a great low-cost adventure.

We also enjoyed their Lavender café and tried an array of lavender flavored foods, drinks and desserts.  Our favorite was the Lavender Cheesecake! Once we were full and finished with touring the farm we supported this small business and purchased some Texas Lavender Honey and Lavender Vanilla soaps. Now we are ready for bath time!

Blessings,

d

Girls,

This trip wasn’t anything what we were expecting but it was good. After being thrust into the festivities of San Antonio and then the magic of Disneyworld we needed to rest. Rest and relaxation is exactly what this trip provided us.

As we drove into Corpus Christie it quickly became apparent just how much rest we were going to get. This city looked almost desolate! Even if there had been anything to do the weather was not permitting. Maybe this is why it may have been so dead? Anyways, with the combination of nothing to do and immanent weather we barely left the lodge. It was glorious. I will always cherish those sweet memories of having pajama parties, staying in bed all day. Boy can you sleep Lyianna just like your daddy. Camrielle, you seem to be more of a morning bird like me. Even with those early rises we both enjoyed napping over and over.

With all that sleep we did get restless on our last two days and daddy had us venture out. We explored the famous Padre Island. It was fun to drive the car right along the shore. Lyianna and daddy enjoyed the traditional sea shell hunt while Camrielle and I just watched. Even though it was overcast the ocean was soothing to listen to, feel and smell.

In staying on the water I knew to pack nautical ensembles. We didn’t really wear any except these and they matched. I will never pass up the opportunity to match girls. I absolutely love it!

I hope we go again one day when we need a place to be quiet and rest.

Girls, we are at it again. You both are currently knocked out on daddy’s lap and chest. You couldn’t stay awake any longer despite all of the beautiful scenery that is passing us by. I have to say that you two are little troopers. Today we have taken two flights, a car ride and now on a train that is making it’s way down the pacific west coast. I’m still needing to breastfeed you, Camrielle, so I chose this tank today. These days they actually call it a “muscle tank” but as you can see I do not have those, yet. So in our nine days home from the last vacation I went shopping with you and came upon this graphic tank. I laughed out loud so hard that I drew in a few curious stares but you weren’t embarrassed. In fact, you smiled right back at me. Thank you for that because as you know my laugh is not exactly petite and cute.

The tank says it all,  “more vacay”. We are on another vacation. A mini vacation you could say but non the less it is more allotted time away from home and with each other. I laughed at this tank simply because it was fitting but I bought it because it cost me only $7 with tax. Yeah go mom is right! It was perfect for breastfeeding you as it was loose, airy and a top layer. I paired it with these white skinny jeans and stylish sneakers. Ok fine yes they are maternity skinnies but hey I have you to thank for that and your dad’s infamous insistence for me to wear anything but heels.
Anyways I admit that I was quite comfortable in this ensemble. I will definitely do more casual looks if I can feel this fancy for being dressed down.
Love you girls,
Mom

Cinco de Mayo Inspired

If it was not for my blog I would not know what day it was because as a stay at home mother that’s just how it goes. However, I have had tomorrow in mind for sure, Cinco de Mayo! All that to say Happy hump day! It is almost the weekend and a good weekend at that, lol

I am not Mexican but was born and raised in California where they have the best Mexican food (next to Mexico of course) and so that is where my love of the Mexican culture began. It is my favorite food. I have half sisters and many friends who are Mexican and they are some of the best people I know.  However, since my trip to San Antonio my love only grew with the culture and specifically with their fashion. After touring The Alamo, my family and I took a look around the gift shop for the usual keepsake. As I was checking out I looked up and in a glass case this beauty was just sitting there in all its glory. I had to have it! Thinking it was going to be hundreds of dollars I nervously ask the price. To my amazement it was only fifty dollars!

I typically do not spend that much money on any one item (ok maybe my shoes… ) but once I saw that it was a handcrafted piece made in Mexico I couldn’t pass up this deal. The tag even depicted the artisan’s name, Josefina y Paco. When paying for it I couldn’t help but wonder if the artisans would be just as excited that their beautiful art of this hand crafted clutch was sold. I love to support small business and the rising designers/companies. Purchasing this Mariposa Lupita Clutch does just that. Oh and if you click the link you can actually find it for an even better price than I did!

This clutch is one of those unexpected purchases that will become a staple piece and a gift that keeps on giving. I see myself using it through all seasons of the year. What better time than to bring my Cinco de Mayo inspired look today?

God bless,

d

Mini Me : Mariachi Style

Happy Tuesday! In honor of Cinco de Mayo this week I took it back to one of my favorite days while on vacation in San Antonio. The day we bought mariachi sombreros and walked around the city’s Fiesta.

I received a few emails from followers that shared their love of our “Mine Me Mondays” and how it actually brightened their Mondays. These emails really made mine and my daughter’s day. They also asked a some questions so I figured I’d answer them here.

Why do you match your daughter?   Well some may already know my love of photos and some of my favorite photos/memories from childhood are matching with my little sister. Yes, my mother matched us exactly from head to toe for years. I also grew up playing sports and being a cheerleader which was another time of everyone wearing the same thing. I just really have always loved the sense of unity it brought. So when I found out I was having a girl I immediately wanted to do mommy & me outfits for as long as she would allow me.

How long have you been matching your daughter?   I have been matching with her since she was months old. About 4 years now. I don’t actually remember the exact month or day, sorry!

Do you find matching clothes from a certain store?   No, not really. Every now and then I do happen to be in a store and there just happens to be something in both our sizes so of course I buy them. For example, when shopping with my cousin the other day I found matching Fourth of July outfits for all three of us! For the most part we aren’t wearing the same exact clothes but rather same colors, styles, etc.

Do you plan on matching with your newest daughter too? In the beginning I did not plan on this but my daughter insisted that she match us so we tried and so far it has worked out here and there.  I like to joke that I have been promoted from “twinning” to “trippling”.

If you have granddaughter do you think you will match them? lol. Maybe? I don’t know depends on my daughters and of course my age!

Thank you again for the support and fun questions!

Orange and a thrifted gem

Welcome!  I want to start by telling you friends to never stop hunting at second hand stores because you never know what kind of gems you will find. Check out this gem of a messenger’s bag that I found from a thrift store back home. It is a real vintage Dooney & Bourke, I verified! It is in great condition externally as it is internally.

Now, let’s talk about the weather conditions. It is pretty humid here unlike northern Texas but nothing like Miami so I knew exactly what I needed. However, I had to break down and wear something orange because it was the only color this dress came in and I really loved the dress. I picked it because it is loose, airy and has a little bit of the culture’s style. Costing me only fourteen dollars without tax made for an easy decision. I also needed the dress. I made the mistake of not checking the weather before packing.

As I sit here and am thinking about needs, I need to make a souvenir list. Today is our last here in San Antonio and we need a few take home mementos. What are some you all collect when traveling? I would love to hear your suggestions!

Happy Friday everyone!

Happy Pueblita Dress

Happy weekend ya’ll! While in the midst of San Antonio’s annual Fiesta I am falling more in love with the Mexican culture. Next to their delicious food my favorite part is their fashion.

I specifically love their famous pueblita dress. It is comfortable, modest and breathable. The dress comes in many different colors. As many of you know in following us over the last couple of years my daughter and I love to match. Yes, I do mean WE. She now asks to pick what we wear and chose our yellow dresses. Her reason was because they were bright and happy.

Once we joined the celebration downtown we found not be the only “tourists” who dressed up. We were even being thanked by many for participating and supporting their festival. I highly recommend that when you are traveling to partake in whatever traditions you can, it is a blessing not only to you but others.
God bless,

It’s day seven of the famous Fiesta here in San Antonio, Texas and we are enjoying the celebration. It has been a beautifully cultured experience for my little family. Last night we were serenaded by Mariachi bands at dinner. Many of you have experienced this but this was unique because the bands were on boats floating by on the river, known as the Ford Mariachi Festival.

You may least expect it when traveling but fashion is just a huge part of life even on vacation. I packed my bags with my own style but have been so inspired by the cultural fashion on this trip. The Mexican and Spanish sophistication here is so traditional and colorful that I have to endeavor by brightening up my wardrobe.

I have started with this Mariachi sombrero. It literally took me about an hour to decide on a color! To know me is to know that if I truly like something, I want it in every color. Guess what? I want one in every color, lol. This iconic hat is a statement piece in itself but with this shade of fuchsia it just pops that much more.

Have a great day,

Many of you have probably already seen via my Instagram feed that I was blessed to go to an NBA playoff game. Vacationing here in San Antonio I was able to cross off another basketball game bucketlist by cheering on the Spurs. Having also been a cheerleader back in my youth there was no thinking twice about having fashionable team spirit. It made for a night of comfort and fun! Anyone else enjoying the playoffs? I want to see so tag me for fun @sundayinstyle! Thanks for reading and enjoy your week!
