Sunday Sojourn

Photos are from the end of May. It took the moving companies three days to pack it all up!

Hello and happy Sunday! Are you surprised to find me writing? If so, I understand. I disappeared on y’all, again. This time I was gone for four months due to being wonderfully distracted by family. By wonderfully I do mean wonderful but also full of wonder. For that reason I am unapologetic ( that is for you Teri and Katrina!) Ready to hear about those new and exciting distractions that kept me absent from here? Any guesses before I start? No, ok read on.

It started with our oldest finishing Kindergarten. That last month of May in school got so busy for us. It definitely didn’t help being room mom, cookie mom (for her Girl Scout troop), finishing up gymnastics, piano and singing lessons. I also simultaneously was spending more than usual time with my youth because their year was also ending. However, the timing was perfect because as school for all my kids was ending so were deadlines with collaboration partners. With school and blogging on break I decided to take one too. I chose to rest from everything that I could.

Proudly and gratefully there is only one part of our life that we don’t really get a break from, the military. In case any of you readers forgot, I am a military wife. A Navy wife to be precise. The time for Navy to move us quickly approached and our three years in Texas was at an end. Thus, it created the real reason I chose to fully engage in nothing else other than spending quality time with my family and friends.

You are now officially caught up on why it was so quiet around here. We just arrived to our final destination yesterday. So, you really do get to be part of this new journey with us and from the start!

We have sojourned to the hottest and furthest temporary home yet. Are you the one wondering now? Any guesses where on earth we moved to? Comment your guess below. If you guess right, first, we have a little surprise to send you!

Stay tuned and you will see!

Blessings,

d

Girls,

This trip wasn’t anything what we were expecting but it was good. After being thrust into the festivities of San Antonio and then the magic of Disneyworld we needed to rest. Rest and relaxation is exactly what this trip provided us.

As we drove into Corpus Christie it quickly became apparent just how much rest we were going to get. This city looked almost desolate! Even if there had been anything to do the weather was not permitting. Maybe this is why it may have been so dead? Anyways, with the combination of nothing to do and immanent weather we barely left the lodge. It was glorious. I will always cherish those sweet memories of having pajama parties, staying in bed all day. Boy can you sleep Lyianna just like your daddy. Camrielle, you seem to be more of a morning bird like me. Even with those early rises we both enjoyed napping over and over.

With all that sleep we did get restless on our last two days and daddy had us venture out. We explored the famous Padre Island. It was fun to drive the car right along the shore. Lyianna and daddy enjoyed the traditional sea shell hunt while Camrielle and I just watched. Even though it was overcast the ocean was soothing to listen to, feel and smell.

In staying on the water I knew to pack nautical ensembles. We didn’t really wear any except these and they matched. I will never pass up the opportunity to match girls. I absolutely love it!

I hope we go again one day when we need a place to be quiet and rest.

Girls, we are at it again. You both are currently knocked out on daddy’s lap and chest. You couldn’t stay awake any longer despite all of the beautiful scenery that is passing us by. I have to say that you two are little troopers. Today we have taken two flights, a car ride and now on a train that is making it’s way down the pacific west coast. I’m still needing to breastfeed you, Camrielle, so I chose this tank today. These days they actually call it a “muscle tank” but as you can see I do not have those, yet. So in our nine days home from the last vacation I went shopping with you and came upon this graphic tank. I laughed out loud so hard that I drew in a few curious stares but you weren’t embarrassed. In fact, you smiled right back at me. Thank you for that because as you know my laugh is not exactly petite and cute.

The tank says it all,  “more vacay”. We are on another vacation. A mini vacation you could say but non the less it is more allotted time away from home and with each other. I laughed at this tank simply because it was fitting but I bought it because it cost me only $7 with tax. Yeah go mom is right! It was perfect for breastfeeding you as it was loose, airy and a top layer. I paired it with these white skinny jeans and stylish sneakers. Ok fine yes they are maternity skinnies but hey I have you to thank for that and your dad’s infamous insistence for me to wear anything but heels.
Anyways I admit that I was quite comfortable in this ensemble. I will definitely do more casual looks if I can feel this fancy for being dressed down.
Love you girls,
Mom

Mini Miami Dress

Sunglasses: Steve Maddden | Dress: Missguided | Clutch: Aldo | Heels: Nordstrom Rack

Good morning from Orlando! I know you are probably thinking, Orlando? Weren’t you just in Miami? Yes, I was! Originally Miami was why we came to Florida because we had a good friend that was graduating. The weekend was also Mother’s Day so we decided to dedicate our second daughter there too. This is one of the many reasons we love being part of a larger church. There are different campuses that you can attend which really helps with traveling. If there isn’t a campus where you are there is always watching service online during your trip!

Our trip to Miami was a quick two-day visit. We squeezed so much in those two days and one of my favorites was a girl’s night out! (Thank you sweet husband of mine!) Once our girls night was planned I knew exactly what I was wearing, this dress. When I first saw it I instantly thought of Miami. It was a moment of sentiment that turned into excitement because it was on sale for $7.48! I didn’t need this dress and certainly couldn’t see myself wearing it in Texas but figured I would use it at some point during our travels. How could I not buy it, especially when it cost so little?!

As fate would have it, I wore this Miami looking dress, in Miami.

How did the girl’s night go? Well, let’s just say it was a beloved night out that only Latinas can have …

God Bless,

Cinco de Mayo Inspired

If it was not for my blog I would not know what day it was because as a stay at home mother that’s just how it goes. However, I have had tomorrow in mind for sure, Cinco de Mayo! All that to say Happy hump day! It is almost the weekend and a good weekend at that, lol

I am not Mexican but was born and raised in California where they have the best Mexican food (next to Mexico of course) and so that is where my love of the Mexican culture began. It is my favorite food. I have half sisters and many friends who are Mexican and they are some of the best people I know.  However, since my trip to San Antonio my love only grew with the culture and specifically with their fashion. After touring The Alamo, my family and I took a look around the gift shop for the usual keepsake. As I was checking out I looked up and in a glass case this beauty was just sitting there in all its glory. I had to have it! Thinking it was going to be hundreds of dollars I nervously ask the price. To my amazement it was only fifty dollars!

I typically do not spend that much money on any one item (ok maybe my shoes… ) but once I saw that it was a handcrafted piece made in Mexico I couldn’t pass up this deal. The tag even depicted the artisan’s name, Josefina y Paco. When paying for it I couldn’t help but wonder if the artisans would be just as excited that their beautiful art of this hand crafted clutch was sold. I love to support small business and the rising designers/companies. Purchasing this Mariposa Lupita Clutch does just that. Oh and if you click the link you can actually find it for an even better price than I did!

This clutch is one of those unexpected purchases that will become a staple piece and a gift that keeps on giving. I see myself using it through all seasons of the year. What better time than to bring my Cinco de Mayo inspired look today?

God bless,

d

Mini Me : Mariachi Style

Her Sombrero: Walmart | Top: Marshalls | Leggings: Macys | Sandals: Baby Gap

Her Sombrero: Walmart | Top: Marshalls | Leggings: Macys | Sandals: Baby Gap

Happy Tuesday! In honor of Cinco de Mayo this week I took it back to one of my favorite days while on vacation in San Antonio. The day we bought mariachi sombreros and walked around the city’s Fiesta.

I received a few emails from followers that shared their love of our “Mine Me Mondays” and how it actually brightened their Mondays. These emails really made mine and my daughter’s day. They also asked a some questions so I figured I’d answer them here.

Why do you match your daughter?   Well some may already know my love of photos and some of my favorite photos/memories from childhood are matching with my little sister. Yes, my mother matched us exactly from head to toe for years. I also grew up playing sports and being a cheerleader which was another time of everyone wearing the same thing. I just really have always loved the sense of unity it brought. So when I found out I was having a girl I immediately wanted to do mommy & me outfits for as long as she would allow me.

How long have you been matching your daughter?   I have been matching with her since she was months old. About 4 years now. I don’t actually remember the exact month or day, sorry!

Do you find matching clothes from a certain store?   No, not really. Every now and then I do happen to be in a store and there just happens to be something in both our sizes so of course I buy them. For example, when shopping with my cousin the other day I found matching Fourth of July outfits for all three of us! For the most part we aren’t wearing the same exact clothes but rather same colors, styles, etc.

Do you plan on matching with your newest daughter too? In the beginning I did not plan on this but my daughter insisted that she match us so we tried and so far it has worked out here and there.  I like to joke that I have been promoted from “twinning” to “trippling”.

If you have granddaughter do you think you will match them? lol. Maybe? I don’t know depends on my daughters and of course my age!

Thank you again for the support and fun questions!

Happy Sunday! So glad it is Sunday and I’m home. I am so happy to be home and relax. I also chose a more relaxed look for church today. I typically don’t wear sandals or shoes to church because I prefer heels. However, I had a reader request a less dressy church look, specifically without heels. I substituted these jeweled sandals for heels and made a plain dress pop with a patterned and colorful kimono. I did still choose to wear heels to church and switched into these for the rest of the day. I hope this helps you!

Enjoy the rest of you weekend!

Orange and a thrifted gem

Sunglasses: Steve Madden | Dress: | Purse: Dooney & Bourke (thrifted) | Sandals: Nordstrom Rack

Sunglasses: Steve Madden | Dress: | Purse: Dooney & Bourke (thrifted) | Sandals: Nordstrom Rack

Welcome!  I want to start by telling you friends to never stop hunting at second hand stores because you never know what kind of gems you will find. Check out this gem of a messenger’s bag that I found from a thrift store back home. It is a real vintage Dooney & Bourke, I verified! It is in great condition externally as it is internally.

Now, let’s talk about the weather conditions. It is pretty humid here unlike northern Texas but nothing like Miami so I knew exactly what I needed. However, I had to break down and wear something orange because it was the only color this dress came in and I really loved the dress. I picked it because it is loose, airy and has a little bit of the culture’s style. Costing me only fourteen dollars without tax made for an easy decision. I also needed the dress. I made the mistake of not checking the weather before packing.

As I sit here and am thinking about needs, I need to make a souvenir list. Today is our last here in San Antonio and we need a few take home mementos. What are some you all collect when traveling? I would love to hear your suggestions!

Happy Friday everyone!

The Alamo in Black

Good evening everyone. I pray that your day was better than ours. Our youngest came down ill and so we have been resting all today. Today is when we had originally planned to visit The Alamo but had to decided to do so last-minute yesterday. In making that decision I had to get dressed quickly.

It is always quick to throw on a maxi so I chose this basic look. I dressed it up a tad with these beaded sandals which made me feel a little more put together for the amount of time I had. I was also quite comfortable walking around while learning a little a more about Texan and Mexican history.

It was very surreal to stand somewhere I have only read and learned about in books. It was even more exciting that we were also educated on the fashion of the men during the battle at The Alamo. If possible and you haven’t already you need to visit!

Is there anything else anyone can suggest for my little family to do or see while we have a few days left?!

Good night,

d

Mini Me Monday

My Dress & Sandals: Nordstrom Rack | Little's Dress: Ted Baker | Little's Sandals: Old Navy

My Dress & Sandals: Nordstrom Rack | Little’s Dress: Ted Baker | Little’s Sandals: Old Navy

It’s Monday, yey. I know most are not enthusiastic about this day but I am. I am this week anyway!

We have experienced everything that San Antonio has to offer except the shopping. What kind of vacation would we experience with out a little shopping too, right? So that is what is on the to do list for today.

Lyianna had her own little to do list today and that was to wear this dress, again. It has become one of her favorites! I am grateful we found it for $8 at a second hand store …

Thank you for following along on our little adventures,

d
