Mini Me Monday : Easter 2018

Just six years ago we celebrated the new life of our three-day old baby girl, on Easter. It was a day full of love, joy and life. I will never forget that Sunday. It was the first Easter my understanding in the power of the cross was deepened. First, as a woman who finally gave birth I had an immediate sense of empowerment physically. Then, in the same moment as a daughter of Christ I was overwhelmed with the power of conquering spiritually. I had enduringly overcame the loss of pregnancies with life in my daughter and most importantly the battle of faith with life in Jesus. Jesus conquered death and then promised eternal life. He not only conquered death on the cross but death for each and every one of us who believes. “For God so loved the world that He sent His one and only Son that who ever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. ”

Six years later, on Easter ( of all days! ) and wearing all white we are still celebrating that same precious baby girl. This Sunday we celebrated Lyianna’s declaration to the world that she too believes in this promise by getting baptized. I even had the honor and privilege of baptizing her alongside her Sunday school teacher Madison.

With family watching online to friends that were present and the rest of the day at the beloved Hillman lake house this day was an answered prayer. How can I ever forget this Easter too?

He is Risen,

D

Lyianna,

Since before you were born you were teaching me how to have faith. The day you were born I became a believer of unbroken promises and in the power of prayer. More than intelligence, knowledge, understanding, health, beauty, joy and love I have been praying for you to believe and accept Jesus. Your boldness and fearlessness in sharing that decision with the world is an inspiration! Baptizing you was an unexpected joy to my answered prayers. I am excited to see how you change the world!

Sunday Tulle

Necklace: Bauble Bar | Top: Nordstrom Rack | Skirt: Windsor | Heels: Sara Jessica Parker | Purse: Michael Khors

Happy Sunday! I know I have been MIA for a bit (a long bit) and I can explain! First let me say thank you. Thank you to all who love and support me with constant encouragement of getting back on here. Thank you for your patience and understanding. I appreciate you.

Right before the holidays I took a trip to Georgia with my family who I don’t get to see often. We celebrated one of my little cousin’s Army boot camp graduation. It was a time full of pride, tears, hope and love. Being a military family I value time with loved ones much more than I did before. So this short and quick week together was really meaningful. I chose to put my phone away and focus on being in their presence. Well one week turned into the next once I got back home. Decidedly, I took a break from social media life.

Looking back now I realize how crucial that break was because life got so busy with expected and unexpected experiences. Some of those experiences I will be sharing soon.

Until then I’m continuing with bringing you Sundays in Style and I’m starting with this tulle skirt ensemble. Just something about wearing tulle that makes me feel even more like the princess that I am. Especially on a Sunday when I’m going before the king with heart and worship!

Blessings,

d

Vidia

Sunglasses: Marc Jacobs | Top: Mossimo (Target) | Jeans: Calvin Klein | Boots: Nordstrom Rack

Ok so I thought I’d give y’all a freebie of who I dressed up as today. My daughter said no one would be able to guess, Vidia. Ring a bell for anyone? Well she is the wind fairy from Tinker Bell movies but with the lighting from today’s shoot dressing as Iridessa (the light fairy) would have been more fitting!

I chose Vidia for the colors. She has the darkest wardrobe of them all. Wearing darker colors is one of the easiest ways to dress for Autumn. It can take away half your time getting ready of you start with color, just FYI. Wearing boots is another easy investment into a fall outfit and I’ll talk a tiny bit about that tomorrow.

Until then we will be cuddling to Tinker Bell on repeat because now Camrielle loves the movie too. And how cute is Camrielle photo bombing? SOOO cute!

Blessings,

d

Travel Comfort

Sunglasses: Steve Madden | Top: Old Navy | T-Shirt & Jeans: Nordstrom Rack | Shoes: Converse | Luggage: Macy’s

We’re heading to the east coast for the weekend. I can’t wait to spend this last weekend of summer with the people I love the most, my little family. Spending quality time is one of my love languages. Jacob too. Since the beginning of our marriage we decided to have our own traditions. One of them is taking a road trip each year and another is visitng every state in America. We have made it a priority to getaway every few months for rejuvenating adventures in new states.

The adventure we are about to embark on has been long awaited. We are heading to Massachusetts for a wedding. It will be a weekend full of love, romance and joy. However, Jake and I are just not ready to leave our girls for a weekend, especially out of state. We will get there eventually but in the meantime we love exploring and being tourists with our daughters. Lyianna and Camrielle are well traveled making it truly relaxing and fun.

There is so much fun to be had while traveling to to and fro destinations but it is not fun when you haven’t dressed accordingly. I made sure we all were. Being comfortable while airport hopping and airplane riding is necessary. There are so many unpredictable circumstances. At the top of the list is unexpected temperatures and delayed flights. I find it super helpful and safest to layer. This layered ensemble is easy and cozy making it a favorite “go-to”.

And now we have to go!

Blessings,

Mini Me Monday: Joy

Tops: Gifted | Jeans: Gap Kids | Sandals: Old Navy

Mondays can be rough. Today was definitely a little rough in our household. We still chose joy. One of the girls favorite songs is singing about a joyful heart and how it is good medicine. So we sang that a lot today! No matter what you may be going through choose joy. I know it isn’t as easy to do as it is to say but it literally is good for you, your body and soul. Having two beautiful girls to laugh with is constant reminder to be happy, everyday. What are some blessings you are happy for?

A blushing date night

Lipstick: LipSense | Necklace: Macy’s | Top: Nordstrom Rack | Jeans: Nordstrom | Heels: Nordstrom Rack

Date nights are becoming more frequent in our life. I am so thankful for this season. Being a military family we can be separated often. However, when Jake is on his normal schedule, it allows for us to really set time apart for family and each other. Family was the reason why we rarely dated during our time in Miami. We only trusted family to watch our daughter and they were back in California. We did make close friends, (framily, as we love to call them) who we would entrust with our child but at that time we still struggled with accepting help. Family is still in California and we are now in Texas. We have been blessed to have made more friends who have now become framily! We also have becoming more comfortable with asking for help with the girls so we can enjoy a few hours to ourselves. It’s an amazing thing to see how God has blessed us with a great tribe who invest in  our lives but especially in our marriage.

Marriage is priceless treasure of life and today I am so happy to be spending time alone with Jake. We are headed to a concert. It is something we have never done together. Venturing out of the usual dinner and movie zone is a commitment we recently made. We have decided to plan dates of things we have never done, together. We are working on a blog post just about that so check back soon.

Dressing up together is another favorite part of marriage that I love. It doesn’t come close to getting dressed up with girlfriends but it’s pretty darn close! Jacob enjoys cleaning up and giving his input about my looks. I am so blessed to be partnered with someone who takes pleasure in dressing well. I would love Jacob regardless of what he wore because his heart for Jesus and others is what “caught” me but I really do admire his love of fashion too. He is a man who give his honest opinion with what I wear. He isn’t afraid to tease me or make me blush.

This blush ensemble says relaxed. The color evokes a calming spirit and these jeans I just love. They are extremely comfortable. Yes, even my heels are comfy. They are Valentino knock offs. I paid $20 for them versus the $1,000 price tag for the real pair.

As I write this blog post I am am very relaxed. In just a few hours I will be even more relaxed. I’ll be worshipping alongside my husband and some amazing musician/artists at the Outcry Festival.

Blessings,

D

Lyianna and Camrielle,

We love you. We pray that one day (maybe even now) you will look back and remember the times dad and mom took time away from you to pour into our marriage. These times are precious to us. We hope it has encouraged you to set time apart not only for your first husband, God, but also your future husband.

love,

mommy

Mini Me Monday: Gift from Above

Onsie: Hope Outfitters | Shorts: Target | Shoes: Converse

Camrielle is bringing joy and truth on this Monday. She is rocking the cutest onsie from her current wardrobe. I picked this graphic onsie for her because of the validity it speaks  to motherhood. No matter how expected or unexpected, how easy or difficult the process  to conceive and bear a child, that child is a gift. A beautiful from God.

Now God has a sense of humor. He knew us parents would need a onsie for our children to wear. Not just any onsie but one that reminded us of this truth when that precious gift isn’t behaving so wonderfully, am I right?

For example, I was reminded to be patient and flexible when attempting to take these photos of Camrielle. She was not cooperative and so I was about to give up. Thankfully our precious gift number one, Lyianna, took over and captured the essence of Camrielle’s spirit. A sister is all you need sometimes!

Help another child in need by purchasing this onsie, here, (or other apparel here) because 100% of the profits go to a good cause. That current campaign is Mercy Ships. Read more here. I’ll even help you out! Use code SUNDAYINSTYLE777 for an extra 10% off!

Blessings,

d

Camrielle and Lyianna,

You have gifted our life with, faith, hope, love, joy, goodness and even comical mischief! We love you so much. We don’t take you for granted. We hope you still see and know this. – mom

Wednesday Work

Sunglasses: Kate Spade | Top: Nordstrom Rack | Shorts: Nordstrom Rack | Sandals: Target

I love being a wife and mother. These two roles in my life are a privilege and joy. Both require work, a lot of work. The first year in marriage and motherhood were really tough but especially my first year as a mom. We had endured so much loss before our first daughter that we had to work hard at having faith. It was all we focused on. I also had lived in quite a bit of fear so I never read books or really prepared for being a mom, out of said fear. When our first daughter was born all I was so over joyed and deeply grateful. However, I had no clue what I was doing those first few months. It was that whole not preparing and believing, lol. I definitely didn’t know how to take care of her and me. I basically spent the first year in pajamas. I put no work into how i presented myself. The few extra minutes I had, I would choose sleep over time to do my hair and makeup. I’ve come quite a way since then. Now I get dressed and brush my hair about twice a week. Just kidding, I’m at three days! Insert a wink here.

Wednesday is one of the two days where the girls are in summer school and I have time to get things done. I basically try to run all of my errands one of those two days. Everything I need to get done today is inside stores where I find myself always cold. This is why I’m wearing a super light sweater in the middle of summer. The cut off shorts balance it out and are super comfy. I basically live in these shorts lately because they are that comfortable.

Well, I’m off to work now …

Happy hump day y’all and thanks for reading!

Lyianna and Camrielle,

I just want you to know that I am grateful for you. I love you so much and you bring so much joy. These precious moments away from you are amazing but nothing in comparison to when I’m with you. Just know this needed space makes me miss you more. One day you two will be mothers and I will be the one watching your children so you can have this sacred space. Until then, thank you for being two girls who are ok with this! I love you.  – mom
