Mini Me Monday : Easter 2018

Just six years ago we celebrated the new life of our three-day old baby girl, on Easter. It was a day full of love, joy and life. I will never forget that Sunday. It was the first Easter my understanding in the power of the cross was deepened. First, as a woman who finally gave birth I had an immediate sense of empowerment physically. Then, in the same moment as a daughter of Christ I was overwhelmed with the power of conquering spiritually. I had enduringly overcame the loss of pregnancies with life in my daughter and most importantly the battle of faith with life in Jesus. Jesus conquered death and then promised eternal life. He not only conquered death on the cross but death for each and every one of us who believes. “For God so loved the world that He sent His one and only Son that who ever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. ”

Six years later, on Easter ( of all days! ) and wearing all white we are still celebrating that same precious baby girl. This Sunday we celebrated Lyianna’s declaration to the world that she too believes in this promise by getting baptized. I even had the honor and privilege of baptizing her alongside her Sunday school teacher Madison.

With family watching online to friends that were present and the rest of the day at the beloved Hillman lake house this day was an answered prayer. How can I ever forget this Easter too?

He is Risen,

D

Lyianna,

Since before you were born you were teaching me how to have faith. The day you were born I became a believer of unbroken promises and in the power of prayer. More than intelligence, knowledge, understanding, health, beauty, joy and love I have been praying for you to believe and accept Jesus. Your boldness and fearlessness in sharing that decision with the world is an inspiration! Baptizing you was an unexpected joy to my answered prayers. I am excited to see how you change the world!

love,

mommy

Mini Me Monday: Smiles

Girl bow: Target | Toddler Bow: Little Poppy Co | Dresses/Romper: Old Navy | Heels: Jessica Simpson & Disney | Toddler Shoes: Native

Mini Me Monday is here y’all. Photographing us girls in matching outfits is my favorite. It has never been this exact either. Surprisingly, (and thankfully!) I found these dresses and this romper last year while on vacation with family. On our family vacations there is always shopping! We decided to stop and look around an outlet Old Navy. It’s always just looking, right? Yeah right! Boy am I sure glad we did a little more than looking. Purchasing these mommy and me outfits has become a gift that keeps on giving. It has brought so many smiles every time we have worn this. I bet you are even smiling right now too!

Lyianna and Camrielle, I can’t tell you enough that the best thing you can ever wear is a smile. You may not remember but I will always remember, so let me tell you. When we wear these matching outfits we get a lot of sweet and encouraging remarks. We make a lot of people smile. I know fashion can be vain but when you have the right heart and context it can be a tool to bring joy. Lyianna, you ask me almost daily if we can wear the same thing and beg to wear these snow white high heels everywhere. You crack your daddy and me up. Camrielle, you love shoes too! You don’t talk a lot quite yet but you sure do know how to say shoes! Girls, thank you for making a mundane thing as getting you dressed everyday fun. Thank you for loving this as much as me even if it is just for right now. When you read this I know you will be smiling. I love you.

Blessings,

d

Tuesday Travel: Embroidered Tulle & Teotihuacan, Mexico

Top: Zara | Shorts: Walmart | Sandals: Unlimited

This Tuesday’s Travel post is brought to you by a recent mission trip to Mexico City. I had no idea that we would be having a free day as my mind had been set on working my butt off the entire week, however, I see how taking a day of rest was fruitful for our group. Especially knowing that it would be our last day of rest, lol.

We had been resting from work over a meal the night before when this little adventurous “free” day was confirmed by our youth leader. We just happened to be at a mall eating that meal. I just happened to eat my meal quicker than everyone else. Everything just seemed to be “happening” so perfectly. Can you see where I am going with how this look was transpired? My decision helped me work in twenty-five minutes of extra time to shop. I apparently had a couple of enthusiasts so my friends Bridget and Ryker joined me. Oh sweet Ryker, he had no idea what it was like to shop with females. His hope of getting a baseball cap quickly dissipated when we were at the fifteen minute mark and still in the same store, lol.

Zara (pink version here) is that one store where I laid my eyes on this beauty. The stunning embroidery is what caught my eye but the tulle is what finalized my purchase. I figured this blouse would not only be fashionable but functional. It was made of breathable material. I was told the sun was pretty hot at the pyramids so you know, it was meant to be y’all. OK, ok. I still find laughter in my thought process of deciding this would be a great choice for hiking up what I didn’t know at the time to be steep stairs. I made it work! I do suggest to be like everyone else and wear more athletic clothes.

I thought the first set of stairs up to the moon pyramid were challening but boy was I wrong. I had a tiny bit of trouble with the Sun Pyramid and thankfully (ok maybe I’m not actually thankful they had issues … ) so did a couple of other people from our group. I fit right in. The pyramids were truly breathtaking! Yes, they both physically and asthetically took my breath away. If you ever have the chance to visit. Do a guided tour and preferably a guide you can understand! Here is a link to read up on the history and archeolgy of Teotihuacan Pyramids.

Lyianna and Camrielle, these are one of those moments you are either rolling your eyes and making fun of me or admiring my spirit. The thought of that warms my heart. I wonder if I have taken you to see these by now and if not, take a trip together. Not alone of course but with trusted friends and/or family. I love you both and will save this top just for you .. kisses!

Blessings,

Welcome back everyone! It has been so long that I almost forgot how to blog, lol. Anyone else wonder where the pictures and content were when this first posted? I did. Thankfully, I have corrected the post …

I find myself being apologetic for the long absence and at the same time not. That whole sorry not sorry motto can be inserted here , right? Life happened and I am glad that living my life was priority over blogging about it.The break was needed and wonderful but since I have a few fans constantly requesting my return, especially that of my four-year old, I have decided to spend time again in one of my favorite corners of life. So, it is official to say I am back.

As you see in the photos our oldest daughter, Lyianna, has acquired a new love. Please meet Isla Rose, our American Girl doll. She became a part of our family on Christmas morning. Isla really does everything with us and it brings me so much joy to see Lyianna so happy with her doll. It has also brought us even closer as I even enjoy playing with my own doll that I gifted myself. Lyianna’s excitement in having a Isla to dress up and play with reminds me of that same emotion in hearing I was having a girl. I remember how undescribably joyful it was to know I was going to have a girl, my own real american girl.

Blessings,

“D”

p.s. If you are contemplating jumping on the American Girl wagon I would love to answer any questions you may have. Let me know if you would like to read a post on America Girl Dolls!

Girls,

This trip wasn’t anything what we were expecting but it was good. After being thrust into the festivities of San Antonio and then the magic of Disneyworld we needed to rest. Rest and relaxation is exactly what this trip provided us.

As we drove into Corpus Christie it quickly became apparent just how much rest we were going to get. This city looked almost desolate! Even if there had been anything to do the weather was not permitting. Maybe this is why it may have been so dead? Anyways, with the combination of nothing to do and immanent weather we barely left the lodge. It was glorious. I will always cherish those sweet memories of having pajama parties, staying in bed all day. Boy can you sleep Lyianna just like your daddy. Camrielle, you seem to be more of a morning bird like me. Even with those early rises we both enjoyed napping over and over.

With all that sleep we did get restless on our last two days and daddy had us venture out. We explored the famous Padre Island. It was fun to drive the car right along the shore. Lyianna and daddy enjoyed the traditional sea shell hunt while Camrielle and I just watched. Even though it was overcast the ocean was soothing to listen to, feel and smell.

In staying on the water I knew to pack nautical ensembles. We didn’t really wear any except these and they matched. I will never pass up the opportunity to match girls. I absolutely love it!

I hope we go again one day when we need a place to be quiet and rest.

Girls, we are at it again. You both are currently knocked out on daddy’s lap and chest. You couldn’t stay awake any longer despite all of the beautiful scenery that is passing us by. I have to say that you two are little troopers. Today we have taken two flights, a car ride and now on a train that is making it’s way down the pacific west coast. I’m still needing to breastfeed you, Camrielle, so I chose this tank today. These days they actually call it a “muscle tank” but as you can see I do not have those, yet. So in our nine days home from the last vacation I went shopping with you and came upon this graphic tank. I laughed out loud so hard that I drew in a few curious stares but you weren’t embarrassed. In fact, you smiled right back at me. Thank you for that because as you know my laugh is not exactly petite and cute.

The tank says it all,  “more vacay”. We are on another vacation. A mini vacation you could say but non the less it is more allotted time away from home and with each other. I laughed at this tank simply because it was fitting but I bought it because it cost me only $7 with tax. Yeah go mom is right! It was perfect for breastfeeding you as it was loose, airy and a top layer. I paired it with these white skinny jeans and stylish sneakers. Ok fine yes they are maternity skinnies but hey I have you to thank for that and your dad’s infamous insistence for me to wear anything but heels.
Anyways I admit that I was quite comfortable in this ensemble. I will definitely do more casual looks if I can feel this fancy for being dressed down.
Love you girls,
Mom

Cinco de Mayo Inspired

Sunglasses: Nine West | Top: Nordstrom Rack | Jeans: Levi's | Heels: Charlotte Rouse

Sunglasses: Nine West | Top: Nordstrom Rack | Jeans: Levi’s | Heels: Charlotte Rouse | Clutch: Manos Zapotecas

If it was not for my blog I would not know what day it was because as a stay at home mother that’s just how it goes. However, I have had tomorrow in mind for sure, Cinco de Mayo! All that to say Happy hump day! It is almost the weekend and a good weekend at that, lol

I am not Mexican but was born and raised in California where they have the best Mexican food (next to Mexico of course) and so that is where my love of the Mexican culture began. It is my favorite food. I have half sisters and many friends who are Mexican and they are some of the best people I know.  However, since my trip to San Antonio my love only grew with the culture and specifically with their fashion. After touring The Alamo, my family and I took a look around the gift shop for the usual keepsake. As I was checking out I looked up and in a glass case this beauty was just sitting there in all its glory. I had to have it! Thinking it was going to be hundreds of dollars I nervously ask the price. To my amazement it was only fifty dollars!

I typically do not spend that much money on any one item (ok maybe my shoes… ) but once I saw that it was a handcrafted piece made in Mexico I couldn’t pass up this deal. The tag even depicted the artisan’s name, Josefina y Paco. When paying for it I couldn’t help but wonder if the artisans would be just as excited that their beautiful art of this hand crafted clutch was sold. I love to support small business and the rising designers/companies. Purchasing this Mariposa Lupita Clutch does just that. Oh and if you click the link you can actually find it for an even better price than I did!

This clutch is one of those unexpected purchases that will become a staple piece and a gift that keeps on giving. I see myself using it through all seasons of the year. What better time than to bring my Cinco de Mayo inspired look today?

God bless,

d
