Friday Feast: First, Ramen

Thailand has its flag-ship dish Pad Thai, Vietnam has its Pho noodles, Italy has its spaghetti and in Japan, it is Ramen! One of our favorite foods lately is Japanese Ramen. This is a far cry from the Cup O’ Noodles that you and I grew up with! The noodles are thick and plentiful, the broth thicker and soupier than Pho. They usually come with a slice of delicious pork belly that melts in your mouth and a boiled egg. Of course you know Danica won’t eat the meat… so I get double portion, more protein for me!

Ordering the food is a process in of its own out here in Okinawa. You first need to order from an automated vending machine that is only in Japanese. Our first time was rough but thankfully the waitress spoke some English and was able to explain enough for us to figure it out. You punch in the main items and add-on items and the machine ejects out these tiny little tickets accordingly. They remind me of movie tickets. As you can see, Camrielle has assumed the duty of punching these buttons for us! Then Lyianna hands over the tickets to our Japanese waitress, and in broken Japanese we pay with Yen.

I enjoy the new ambience and one of the best things is watching my family enjoy food from another land. I can’t say that I enjoyed it as thoroughly the first time. Let me explain.

If you’ve ever eaten with me before, you may recall that I have a penchant for the burn of the spicy. From Siracha to Tapatio, bring it on! So when the waitress asked me how spicy I wanted my Ramen, from a scale of 1 to 50, I chose 25. I thought that it was relative to a scale of 1 to 10, and that in Japan somehow their scale goes up to 50. I was wrong! As I wolfed in my “Exploding Volcano” spicy level 25 Ramen, I thought it odd that Chefs kept peering out to look at me.  It wasn’t so bad … it was only half way max spicy level…or so I thought. As I began to feel an unusual subtle tingling emerge from the base of my tongue to the top of my scalp, my family was giggling at me and having a grand old-time. I can only handle the burn of a level 2 spicy and I may just stick to no spice for a while because wow the burn!

Thank you for joining us on our journey and checking out our gastric delights. I can’t wait to share with you guys next week another Japanese favorite out here!

Until next week, this is your friendly neighborhood, guest writin’ Ramen eating’ Jake signing out.

Sunday Tulle

Necklace: Bauble Bar | Top: Nordstrom Rack | Skirt: Windsor | Heels: Sara Jessica Parker | Purse: Michael Khors

Happy Sunday! I know I have been MIA for a bit (a long bit) and I can explain! First let me say thank you. Thank you to all who love and support me with constant encouragement of getting back on here. Thank you for your patience and understanding. I appreciate you.

Right before the holidays I took a trip to Georgia with my family who I don’t get to see often. We celebrated one of my little cousin’s Army boot camp graduation. It was a time full of pride, tears, hope and love. Being a military family I value time with loved ones much more than I did before. So this short and quick week together was really meaningful. I chose to put my phone away and focus on being in their presence. Well one week turned into the next once I got back home. Decidedly, I took a break from social media life.

Looking back now I realize how crucial that break was because life got so busy with expected and unexpected experiences. Some of those experiences I will be sharing soon.

Until then I’m continuing with bringing you Sundays in Style and I’m starting with this tulle skirt ensemble. Just something about wearing tulle that makes me feel even more like the princess that I am. Especially on a Sunday when I’m going before the king with heart and worship!

Blessings,

d

Travel Comfort

Sunglasses: Steve Madden | Top: Old Navy | T-Shirt & Jeans: Nordstrom Rack | Shoes: Converse | Luggage: Macy’s

We’re heading to the east coast for the weekend. I can’t wait to spend this last weekend of summer with the people I love the most, my little family. Spending quality time is one of my love languages. Jacob too. Since the beginning of our marriage we decided to have our own traditions. One of them is taking a road trip each year and another is visitng every state in America. We have made it a priority to getaway every few months for rejuvenating adventures in new states.

The adventure we are about to embark on has been long awaited. We are heading to Massachusetts for a wedding. It will be a weekend full of love, romance and joy. However, Jake and I are just not ready to leave our girls for a weekend, especially out of state. We will get there eventually but in the meantime we love exploring and being tourists with our daughters. Lyianna and Camrielle are well traveled making it truly relaxing and fun.

There is so much fun to be had while traveling to to and fro destinations but it is not fun when you haven’t dressed accordingly. I made sure we all were. Being comfortable while airport hopping and airplane riding is necessary. There are so many unpredictable circumstances. At the top of the list is unexpected temperatures and delayed flights. I find it super helpful and safest to layer. This layered ensemble is easy and cozy making it a favorite “go-to”.

And now we have to go!

Blessings,

Girls,

This trip wasn’t anything what we were expecting but it was good. After being thrust into the festivities of San Antonio and then the magic of Disneyworld we needed to rest. Rest and relaxation is exactly what this trip provided us.

As we drove into Corpus Christie it quickly became apparent just how much rest we were going to get. This city looked almost desolate! Even if there had been anything to do the weather was not permitting. Maybe this is why it may have been so dead? Anyways, with the combination of nothing to do and immanent weather we barely left the lodge. It was glorious. I will always cherish those sweet memories of having pajama parties, staying in bed all day. Boy can you sleep Lyianna just like your daddy. Camrielle, you seem to be more of a morning bird like me. Even with those early rises we both enjoyed napping over and over.

With all that sleep we did get restless on our last two days and daddy had us venture out. We explored the famous Padre Island. It was fun to drive the car right along the shore. Lyianna and daddy enjoyed the traditional sea shell hunt while Camrielle and I just watched. Even though it was overcast the ocean was soothing to listen to, feel and smell.

In staying on the water I knew to pack nautical ensembles. We didn’t really wear any except these and they matched. I will never pass up the opportunity to match girls. I absolutely love it!

I hope we go again one day when we need a place to be quiet and rest.

Many of you have probably already seen via my Instagram feed that I was blessed to go to an NBA playoff game. Vacationing here in San Antonio I was able to cross off another basketball game bucketlist by cheering on the Spurs. Having also been a cheerleader back in my youth there was no thinking twice about having fashionable team spirit. It made for a night of comfort and fun! Anyone else enjoying the playoffs? I want to see so tag me for fun @sundayinstyle! Thanks for reading and enjoy your week!

Good afternoon! I was asked how I lost weight so fast, other than breastfeeding, so here is a post on my answer. First, I lost my “I can eat whatever I want” pregnancy card and went back to my heathy diet, immediately. I can get into that more detailed in another post if you would like. Second, exercise. I began these exercising regiments seven weeks after I delivered my baby so I advise to wait until your doctor has cleared you. I do a Pilates class one morning (this helps build my core and flexibility back up) and personal training in boxing one evening each week ( this is my cardio since I can’t run yet). I then walk almost every day for at least thirty minutes with stretching before and after. I prefer to walk on the track near my house because it is better on my joints, especially with the fluctuating weight.  Lastly, I drink a ton of water, water is key ladies.

When it comes to working out I keep it simple with wardrobe. After all you are going to end up sweating and looking a hot mess! A tank and leggings plus comfy sneakers are my “go to”.

Enjoy getting back to fit,

d

This was Sunday’s look. I was happy to be cozy but also semi dressed up. I am slowly fitting into more and more of my clothes which always makes for a good day. My days have been better since getting ahead of a recent cold but they have been lacking in blogging. I thank you for the get well emails and concerns, ya’ll are the sweetest. I hope your day only gets sweeter!

Thanks for reading,

Hi! Although I wore this ensemble a couple weeks ago I want to wear it again. It is officially Spring but for many of us out there it still feels like Winter. As tempted as I am to get dressed up in this cozy ensemble I have opted for staying home in pajamas and turning up the heat …

A Grey Day

I am loving the grey weather today. It made for a great excuse to sleep in and cozy up to my babes. I was also happy to cozy up in this grey fringed poncho. No, I didn’t match my look to the weather on purpose, lol.

I recently shared that I appreciate capes and ponchos but it has to be stated again, especially, for my preggos. I really love having these pieces in my wardrobe and more so while I have been pregnant. You can dress them up or down with such ease and yes, it is another great find among Pink Blush’s maternity clothes.

Being this far into my pregnancy many things are getting quite uncomfortable so it felt really good to be able to wear this. I was able to move around freely and stay warm for our cold activities today.

Enjoy your Saturday folks!

Danica
