Friday Feast: First, Ramen

Thailand has its flag-ship dish Pad Thai, Vietnam has its Pho noodles, Italy has its spaghetti and in Japan, it is Ramen! One of our favorite foods lately is Japanese Ramen. This is a far cry from the Cup O’ Noodles that you and I grew up with! The noodles are thick and plentiful, the broth thicker and soupier than Pho. They usually come with a slice of delicious pork belly that melts in your mouth and a boiled egg. Of course you know Danica won’t eat the meat… so I get double portion, more protein for me!

Ordering the food is a process in of its own out here in Okinawa. You first need to order from an automated vending machine that is only in Japanese. Our first time was rough but thankfully the waitress spoke some English and was able to explain enough for us to figure it out. You punch in the main items and add-on items and the machine ejects out these tiny little tickets accordingly. They remind me of movie tickets. As you can see, Camrielle has assumed the duty of punching these buttons for us! Then Lyianna hands over the tickets to our Japanese waitress, and in broken Japanese we pay with Yen.

I enjoy the new ambience and one of the best things is watching my family enjoy food from another land. I can’t say that I enjoyed it as thoroughly the first time. Let me explain.

If you’ve ever eaten with me before, you may recall that I have a penchant for the burn of the spicy. From Siracha to Tapatio, bring it on! So when the waitress asked me how spicy I wanted my Ramen, from a scale of 1 to 50, I chose 25. I thought that it was relative to a scale of 1 to 10, and that in Japan somehow their scale goes up to 50. I was wrong! As I wolfed in my “Exploding Volcano” spicy level 25 Ramen, I thought it odd that Chefs kept peering out to look at me.  It wasn’t so bad … it was only half way max spicy level…or so I thought. As I began to feel an unusual subtle tingling emerge from the base of my tongue to the top of my scalp, my family was giggling at me and having a grand old-time. I can only handle the burn of a level 2 spicy and I may just stick to no spice for a while because wow the burn!

Thank you for joining us on our journey and checking out our gastric delights. I can’t wait to share with you guys next week another Japanese favorite out here!

Until next week, this is your friendly neighborhood, guest writin’ Ramen eating’ Jake signing out.

Sunday Tulle

Necklace: Bauble Bar | Top: Nordstrom Rack | Skirt: Windsor | Heels: Sara Jessica Parker | Purse: Michael Khors

Happy Sunday! I know I have been MIA for a bit (a long bit) and I can explain! First let me say thank you. Thank you to all who love and support me with constant encouragement of getting back on here. Thank you for your patience and understanding. I appreciate you.

Right before the holidays I took a trip to Georgia with my family who I don’t get to see often. We celebrated one of my little cousin’s Army boot camp graduation. It was a time full of pride, tears, hope and love. Being a military family I value time with loved ones much more than I did before. So this short and quick week together was really meaningful. I chose to put my phone away and focus on being in their presence. Well one week turned into the next once I got back home. Decidedly, I took a break from social media life.

Looking back now I realize how crucial that break was because life got so busy with expected and unexpected experiences. Some of those experiences I will be sharing soon.

Until then I’m continuing with bringing you Sundays in Style and I’m starting with this tulle skirt ensemble. Just something about wearing tulle that makes me feel even more like the princess that I am. Especially on a Sunday when I’m going before the king with heart and worship!

Blessings,

d

Vidia

Sunglasses: Marc Jacobs | Top: Mossimo (Target) | Jeans: Calvin Klein | Boots: Nordstrom Rack

Ok so I thought I’d give y’all a freebie of who I dressed up as today. My daughter said no one would be able to guess, Vidia. Ring a bell for anyone? Well she is the wind fairy from Tinker Bell movies but with the lighting from today’s shoot dressing as Iridessa (the light fairy) would have been more fitting!

I chose Vidia for the colors. She has the darkest wardrobe of them all. Wearing darker colors is one of the easiest ways to dress for Autumn. It can take away half your time getting ready of you start with color, just FYI. Wearing boots is another easy investment into a fall outfit and I’ll talk a tiny bit about that tomorrow.

Until then we will be cuddling to Tinker Bell on repeat because now Camrielle loves the movie too. And how cute is Camrielle photo bombing? SOOO cute!

Blessings,

d

Mini Me Monday: Gift from Above

Onsie: Hope Outfitters | Shorts: Target | Shoes: Converse

Camrielle is bringing joy and truth on this Monday. She is rocking the cutest onsie from her current wardrobe. I picked this graphic onsie for her because of the validity it speaks  to motherhood. No matter how expected or unexpected, how easy or difficult the process  to conceive and bear a child, that child is a gift. A beautiful from God.

Now God has a sense of humor. He knew us parents would need a onsie for our children to wear. Not just any onsie but one that reminded us of this truth when that precious gift isn’t behaving so wonderfully, am I right?

For example, I was reminded to be patient and flexible when attempting to take these photos of Camrielle. She was not cooperative and so I was about to give up. Thankfully our precious gift number one, Lyianna, took over and captured the essence of Camrielle’s spirit. A sister is all you need sometimes!

Help another child in need by purchasing this onsie, here, (or other apparel here) because 100% of the profits go to a good cause. That current campaign is Mercy Ships. Read more here. I’ll even help you out! Use code SUNDAYINSTYLE777 for an extra 10% off!

Blessings,

Camrielle and Lyianna,

You have gifted our life with, faith, hope, love, joy, goodness and even comical mischief! We love you so much. We don’t take you for granted. We hope you still see and know this. – mom

Mini Me Monday: Graphic Tees

Sunglasses: Old Navy | T-shirt: Hope Outfitters | Skirt: Target | Sandals: Old Navy

Can I just talk about how cute these graphic tees from Hope Outfitters are?! I love them. Ok, now can we talk about how cute my daughters are? I love them even more! Lyianna, (our five-year old ) has been reading for a bit now and was very excited that she could read this t-shirt we gifted her. Once she realized what it said she jumped in joy.  This is her favorite song. As if that wasn’t sweet enough she continued to thank me for giving her a t-shirt she could tell people about Jesus with. My heart just melted. This I know, Lyianna is one of the sweetest and most thoughtful little girls. She really has a big heart and loves easily.

Some of the easiest moments with Lyianna are singing. Since she was in the womb Jacob and I would sing her this song. It is apparently engraved in her heart now and that makes me so blessed. Teaching her she is loved by Jesus is the most valuable truth I can impart on her. We are also doing our best to teach her to love others as Jesus loves her. So we took this opportunity to encourage her to tell people about Jesus but also to share how much more this shirt is reaching others through the love of Jesus. We explained to her that because we bought this shirt all the money from the sale is going to an organization that helps give life saving surgeries to other kids around the world. Do you know what she asked me? If she could buy one with her own money. See how easy it is to love her!?

What better gift than speaking the truth that Jesus love me, her and everyone? There isn’t anything better in life than that. I am just so grateful for wonderful companies who model this hope. Hope Outfitters probably doesn’t even know that they are reaching hearts right at home. Has your heart been touched? Do you want to follow in Lyianna’s example and purchase a shirt too!? Then click here for her exact shirt and here to see others. Also because we love you too, use my code SUNDAYINSTYLE777 for an extra 10% off! You are so very welcome.

Blessings,

d

Lyianna,

You are one little fireball of love. You are only five but have already been used greatly by God. He has used you in my life, daddy’s, your sisters, family, friends and others you grace with your energy. You have loved this song since you were in the womb. This song actually was the first precious and comical memory with you and your tia, Giselle. She came from Seattle to Miami one time to spend time with us and you. You were only three months old! She was a blessing by sending us off for a date night. We told her to sing you this song if she needed to calm you down or put you to sleep. She told me that she wouldn’t be singing that song and I said ok. We came home and she was standing there with you in her arms sound asleep. She was also singing Jesus Loves Me just under her breath with a happily defeated look on her face, lol. I hope that today however old you are that you still believe this truth. I pray that it is still something you want to share with others. I love you. – mommy

Sports tee & cut-off shorts in Wyoming

Sunglasses: Kate Spade | Top: Forever 21 | Shorts: Nordstrom | Shoes: Converse (linker here)

Morning! It’s the weekend and that means rest and relaxation. Our family has accomplished this well. I have loved our nonchalant state of minds this trip. Our experiences this vacation have been laid back and unexpected. I’m so happy that I was dressed casually. This is becoming less and less of a challenge for me.

A casual look doesn’t have to be boring. You can easily spruce up a t-shirt and jeans look with making it sporty. The football inspired stripes on this top give it that extra characteristic. The ripped cut-off shorts ( half off here) are just so much more fun. And the shoes? Well they made this look collective. I’ve linked my exact pair above in the photo caption and another similar pair for less here.

I’m officially ready for our last day full of adventure!

Thanks for reading!

Lounging to the Maxi

Sunglasses: Marc Jacobs | Dress: Nordstrom Rack | Sandals: Target

Like why I did with the title there !? Seriously though wearing this maxi made lounging around that much better. This maxi dress is made of muslin material which is very light and breathable. This fabric is perfect for summer especially if you are going to brave the extra length. I love it so much that I bought it in three more colors!

We spent our first day in Colorado Springs at The Broadmoor Hotel. It is a beautiful five star hotel with all the luxuries you can imagine. It is nestled at the foot of the mountains which provide breathtaking views. My husband found so much joy watching how wowed us girls were. They really designed a hotel that compels you to breathe slower and truly relax. Relaxing after a twelve hour road trip was exactly what we needed. Time spent swimming, eating pastries and laughing was my favorite luxury of our stay here.

Graphic T-Shirt Truths

Sunglasses: Kate Spade | Shirt: Hope Outfitters | Dress: Nordstrom Rack | Shoes: Converse

Nothing is more comfortable to me then a dress. I’m probably annoying you all with how much I have said that but hugs! I love bodycon dresses but don’t always feel modest running errands wearing one so I put a t-shirt over it. I had a little more peace.

This is another purchase from Hope Outfitters and I love it! It’s a graphic tee that speaks volumes about my life. I am a daughter to the king of all kings! Believing this truth gives me so much more confidence than anything I can ever wear. Yet wearing this t-shirt reminds me whose I am and my purpose. I am overjoyed that buying this helped change a life and by wearing it I have the opportunity to share ( click here) the meaning. Want to help change a life and look stylish while doing it? Then head over to Hope Outfitters and pick a few things out. Save 10% by using my code : SUNDAYINSTYLE777 … cheers!

Tuesday Travel: Embroidered Tulle & Teotihuacan, Mexico

Top: Zara | Shorts: Walmart | Sandals: Unlimited

This Tuesday’s Travel post is brought to you by a recent mission trip to Mexico City. I had no idea that we would be having a free day as my mind had been set on working my butt off the entire week, however, I see how taking a day of rest was fruitful for our group. Especially knowing that it would be our last day of rest, lol.

We had been resting from work over a meal the night before when this little adventurous “free” day was confirmed by our youth leader. We just happened to be at a mall eating that meal. I just happened to eat my meal quicker than everyone else. Everything just seemed to be “happening” so perfectly. Can you see where I am going with how this look was transpired? My decision helped me work in twenty-five minutes of extra time to shop. I apparently had a couple of enthusiasts so my friends Bridget and Ryker joined me. Oh sweet Ryker, he had no idea what it was like to shop with females. His hope of getting a baseball cap quickly dissipated when we were at the fifteen minute mark and still in the same store, lol.

Zara (pink version here) is that one store where I laid my eyes on this beauty. The stunning embroidery is what caught my eye but the tulle is what finalized my purchase. I figured this blouse would not only be fashionable but functional. It was made of breathable material. I was told the sun was pretty hot at the pyramids so you know, it was meant to be y’all. OK, ok. I still find laughter in my thought process of deciding this would be a great choice for hiking up what I didn’t know at the time to be steep stairs. I made it work! I do suggest to be like everyone else and wear more athletic clothes.

I thought the first set of stairs up to the moon pyramid were challening but boy was I wrong. I had a tiny bit of trouble with the Sun Pyramid and thankfully (ok maybe I’m not actually thankful they had issues … ) so did a couple of other people from our group. I fit right in. The pyramids were truly breathtaking! Yes, they both physically and asthetically took my breath away. If you ever have the chance to visit. Do a guided tour and preferably a guide you can understand! Here is a link to read up on the history and archeolgy of Teotihuacan Pyramids.

Lyianna and Camrielle, these are one of those moments you are either rolling your eyes and making fun of me or admiring my spirit. The thought of that warms my heart. I wonder if I have taken you to see these by now and if not, take a trip together. Not alone of course but with trusted friends and/or family. I love you both and will save this top just for you .. kisses!

Blessings,

Mini Miami Dress

Sunglasses: Steve Maddden | Dress: Missguided | Clutch: Aldo | Heels: Nordstrom Rack

Good morning from Orlando! I know you are probably thinking, Orlando? Weren’t you just in Miami? Yes, I was! Originally Miami was why we came to Florida because we had a good friend that was graduating. The weekend was also Mother’s Day so we decided to dedicate our second daughter there too. This is one of the many reasons we love being part of a larger church. There are different campuses that you can attend which really helps with traveling. If there isn’t a campus where you are there is always watching service online during your trip!

Our trip to Miami was a quick two-day visit. We squeezed so much in those two days and one of my favorites was a girl’s night out! (Thank you sweet husband of mine!) Once our girls night was planned I knew exactly what I was wearing, this dress. When I first saw it I instantly thought of Miami. It was a moment of sentiment that turned into excitement because it was on sale for $7.48! I didn’t need this dress and certainly couldn’t see myself wearing it in Texas but figured I would use it at some point during our travels. How could I not buy it, especially when it cost so little?!

As fate would have it, I wore this Miami looking dress, in Miami.

How did the girl’s night go? Well, let’s just say it was a beloved night out that only Latinas can have …

God Bless,

d
