Travel Tips: Weekend Getaway Part II

Y’all remember how I packed a mini capsule wardrobe for my weekend getaway? Well here are four of the outfits I wore this last weekend. These were just four of the eighteen different looks I styled. The biggest benefit to this was the time I saved not having to decide what to wear. I will be talking about why I packed certain items next week in part III.

Flashback Friday: Weekend Wedding

Lipstick: Bon Bon by Too Faced | Dress: Nordstrom Rack | Heels: Vince Camuto

Happy Friday y’all! I am so ready for the weekend. I’m looking forward to having no plans. An uneventful couple of days is the opposite to last weekend. We were taking flights, driving rental cars, touring a city and experiencing the romance of a wedding.

I love a romantic reason to put on a fancy dress and a wedding is one of those special times. Lace is one of the most romantic materials worn. Just think of all the weddings you have been to, at some point you saw lace. The fanciness of this lace gave a see-through illusion. As you can see from the design it was meant to be a statement piece perfect for Summer. This made it a little daring for me to wear. Thankfully, within the first few minutes of arriving to the wedding I was complimented on the beauty and classiness of the dress. This is exactly why I fell in love with it in the first place. When this dress first caught my eye it demanded attention but not at the cost of elegance.

No matter how beautiful our dresses, jewelry or hair it is the gentle and graceful spirit within us that is most captivating.

Back to School + GIVEAWAY

Glasses: Christian Dior | Dress: Sugar Love Boutique | Planner: Horacio Printing

Good morning! The first day of school has come and gone for many students across America, our oldest included.  Lyianna started Kindergarten yesterday and I can’t believe it! We are grateful that she is at a great school and has a wonderful teacher but it is bittersweet. In all the excitement for her I do find myself wishing for the slowing of time. I know this is impossible and for good reason but it does give me the extra motivation to be more intentional with the time I have with Lyianna this school year.

In addition to the responsibilities of being a mother and going back to school myself I have the privilege of being the “room mom” for this year. I am very excited. It is a special measure to bond with her in these early years of school. My heart for serving her teacher and the class in this way is not enough. I need to be prepared and organized. I do this easily with my planner like most parents. However, my planner is different.

I was gifted a Horacio Printing Planner for Christmas two years ago by my friend Alena. It is a christian planner that has helped me connect deeper and more intentional with God, myself, and others. Horacio is a latin word for timekeeper. Their planners have brought me to the start of every season with readiness for life, simultaneously, encouraging me spiritually through bible verses, prayers and focus on God as the center of all my plans. The added bonus to these Horacio Printing planners is that they are beautifully and fashionably designed! In just a couple of weeks they will be releasing their 2018 designs. Until then you can check out their different designs here and use their “back to school” code: backtoschool.

Alena gave me a beautiful and needed gift. I had no idea it would be a gift that kept on giving. I want to follow in her footsteps and bless y’all with the chance to win a 2017-2018 Student planner or a sketch journal. There will be two winners, one winner receives the planner and the other winner receives the journal. Just click the link below for instructions!

This giveaway is now closed and winners have been notified by email.

Blessings to your school year,

Sunday: Sightseeing Style

Sunglasses: Steve Madden | Dress: Nordstrom Rack | Shoes: Converse

My Sundays usually involve a dress and heels but not today. This Sunday we are tourists  involving quite a bit of walking. I didn’t want to compromise on wearing a dress so I just went for a more casual look to accommodate the shoes. I always will chose Converse over actual walking shoes because they add more style. And because we are ocean front I found the nautical style necessary.

Can’t wait to show y’all photos of this beautiful city. Until then you can follow my insta stories @sundayinstyle!

Travel Comfort

Sunglasses: Steve Madden | Top: Old Navy | T-Shirt & Jeans: Nordstrom Rack | Shoes: Converse | Luggage: Macy’s

We’re heading to the east coast for the weekend. I can’t wait to spend this last weekend of summer with the people I love the most, my little family. Spending quality time is one of my love languages. Jacob too. Since the beginning of our marriage we decided to have our own traditions. One of them is taking a road trip each year and another is visitng every state in America. We have made it a priority to getaway every few months for rejuvenating adventures in new states.

The adventure we are about to embark on has been long awaited. We are heading to Massachusetts for a wedding. It will be a weekend full of love, romance and joy. However, Jake and I are just not ready to leave our girls for a weekend, especially out of state. We will get there eventually but in the meantime we love exploring and being tourists with our daughters. Lyianna and Camrielle are well traveled making it truly relaxing and fun.

There is so much fun to be had while traveling to to and fro destinations but it is not fun when you haven’t dressed accordingly. I made sure we all were. Being comfortable while airport hopping and airplane riding is necessary. There are so many unpredictable circumstances. At the top of the list is unexpected temperatures and delayed flights. I find it super helpful and safest to layer. This layered ensemble is easy and cozy making it a favorite “go-to”.

And now we have to go!

Feature Friday: Madison

I created this blog as a photographic diary for my girls to look back on. I love that I can combine my love of photography and fashion while fulfilling my desire of writing to my girls. This is my way of sharing our life as we move all around the world and grow up together. I enjoy sharing with them (and y’all!) what we wear and why but I also love to share what else I am passionate about.

I am passionate about my friends. I have been blessed and favored with some of the amazing women and husband God has placed in my life no matter the time or season. My mother taught me at very young age that if I wanted to have good friends then I needed to be a good friend first. She told me a simple way to start was by treating others the way I would want to be treated. She then shared a verse. Luke 6:31.” do unto others as you would have them do to you.” In a world that says to put ourselves first this wisdom is going against the grain. Friendship can be work but rewarding. Each month I will be featuring a rewarding friendship in my life.

Today, for my first feature I am introducing y’all to someone super amazing!  I’m constantly asked if I have paparazzi or a professional photographer following me around. I do! I hired a photographer. Her name is Madison and as your compliments prove, her photography is outstanding. The pictures above are some of her work. What is the big deal? Isn’t that job of a professional photographer? To take great photos? Yes. So why is my photographer being featured as an inspiration in my life? Because she is ten years old.

Ok y’all can pick your jaws back up but you don’t have to stop smiling. I’m not! Of all the people I could feature Madison had to be first. She is the reason this blog works and is successful. I have to give honor where honor is due. Yet, she is as humble as they come. So she would never brag ( unless it’s with her family, of course!) about her work. Before I realized that Madison had a photographer’s eye she was already inspiring. She is the oldest of five children in her family. Her siblings are ages seven, five, three and one. They are her world which can be a little loud, chaotic at times and always moving but she never ceases to put them first. Next to her radiating love of family her soul exudes her love for Jesus. She is one genuinely caring girl because she works to exemplify Jesus’ way of loving. Her focus is always on bettering herself and the desire to help others. These mature and intellectual conversations I have with Madison always leave me truly inspired to be a better person, daughter, mother and friend. And because she is a good friend she agreed to and had permission from her mother to be interviewed. Enjoy listening to a girl who we are blessed to have as role model to our girls and as an example of great parenting.

Me: “When did you first know you loved photography?”

Madison: ” I can’t remember the exact moment but I just always loved taking pictures and I was always asking my mom to take photos.”

Me: When did you first realize that you had an ‘eye’ for photography? In other words, when did you know you were talented?”

Madison: “When I asked to take photos at a tulip festival. I was asking my brother to do a pose and then took the photo. It came out better than I expected. I was like wow.”

Me: ” What is your favorite thing about photography?”

Madison: ” Traveling from place to place to take the photos. ”

Me: ” What is your goal in photography?”

Madison: ” To learn more and get better. I want to go to school for photography also really want to use my talent to help people. ”

Me: You are young but really talented with a paid dream job. So how would you encourage/help other young kids with dreams? You have the opportunity to say something right now. What would you like to say?”

Madison: ” I would say, don’t let your age get in the way of you fulfilling your dreams. I would tell them that if this is really what you want to do, if you are sure you want to start this in your life then tell your parents. Talk to them because I bet they’ll understand. Ask them if there is a way to begin towards your dream.

Me: “What is your biggest dream, Madison?”

Madison: ” To one day open up my own photography business. I would also really like to own a blog where I can take photos of restaurants and write reviews on the food, places and stuff like that.”

Me: “Who inspires you and why?”

Madison: ” my cousin. She is sixteen and she has always inspired me. She is there for me and helps me. She can turn any bad situation upside down and find the good.”

I pray that you have been inspired today and think about inspiring others, especially our next generation.

“Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.”

Thank you for reading!

Lyianna and Camrielle, I know how much you love Madison and how she has become a big sister to you. I’m so grateful for this. I pray that you both see the importance of loving others, first. I hope I have done my job well and instilled in you the desire to cultivate good and God-fearing friendships. When you think of me you do remember the beautiful friendships I have or had? If so, know that I was intentional in being a good friend and they exemplified Jesus’ model of friendship. Most importantly, I know one day we will be even better friends than we are now. I love you with all my heart. – Mom

Travel Tip: Weekend Getaway Packing Part I

Welcome! I am on my way out for our last summer vacation. We are going out-of-town for just the weekend and a friend who knew this asked me to write a post on packing. I also happened to have a couple of readers ask! I guess it was destiny. Here I am in the midst of packing last-minute. The first and most imperative tip is not to save packing for last-minute, like I’m doing right now. Wow, I am already setting a horrible example, lol. Insert rolling of the eyes here. However, if you are like me who is packing for a family of four (or my friend Lisa who packs for a family of seven, true story!) then I do understand that it’s almost impossible to get it done any sooner.

Second, manage your time wisely. Again, I’m still in the learning process of this! Organizing each person’s planned wardrobe into carry-on sized luggage is the best management of time. Rather than spending time throwing clothes on and off, let’s decide before what to wear and take. This is how you will avoid ending up flustered and over packing.

Third, don’t be the over-packer. I have found that compiling a mini capsule wardrobe works best. For example, if you noticed the pictures above I have selected sixteen items to take and the majority of them fold thin. I also only chose three pairs of shoes (that choice may have been the most difficult). I will be wearing one pair at all times, which further lessens the bulk. That is the purpose of a capsule wardrobe: to have a set number of pieces to wear interchangeably and that don’t take as much space. The key, however, is to choose items that are basic and re-useable. Hence the neutral colors and items that pair well with others. I know that when I take the time to create capsules of staple but versatile pieces I can actually pack less. Planning a capsule wardrobe is also one of those few times that less is more. Take another look, go ahead scroll up, I will wait. Ok, so it doesn’t really look like much right? That’s because it’s really not and all of it fit into my carry on! How did I transform those few items into more? Below I have posted pictures of the eighteen different looks I styled. Eighteen different outfits y’all! Crazy right? Obviously a weekend does not consist of eighteen days but if it did? Well let’s just say I’d be ready and styled.

Lastly, find a reason to love packing. Attitude changes everything. Since becoming a wife and mother just the thought of packing can be daunting, but then I remember what I love about it. I especially love coordinating matching looks. I encourage you to find your reason to love packing. I mean that shouldn’t be too hard. Every vacation requires a little packing, so we might as well get excited about it, right?

Curious to see how these outfits look on? Well then come back next week for part II.

Thanks for reading & goodnight!

Lipstick Love + GIVEAWAY

Lipstick: Lipsense “A Kiss for A Cause” | Lipgloss: Lipsense “Glossy” | Bag: Complimentary of Lip Dolls

“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” That verse and the chorus ” your praise will ever be on my lips..” are the first thoughts I think of when it comes to lips. In no way am I perfect but I try my best to think before any word leaves my lips. I literally pray for kind and patient words as I put on my lispstick each day.

Today, I am excited to talk about lips and more specifically, lipsticks. Lipstick can easily make or break any makeup look and outfit. So it’s important. It can take months to even years finding the right brand and price. If you know me personally or follow me on any social media then you know I love lipsticks. You may also be one of my readers that is clicking on those links (thank you!) and reading what I’m wearing and where it is from (including my lipsticks) and already know which brands I love most. If you are not one of those readers than let me tell you real quick that I love Too Faced Lipsticks, especially this line.

I still can’t believe it but I have found a new line that I love even more! Want to take a quick moment and give a guess? Did you guess Lipsense? That’s right. Lipsense! Maybe you heard about it once or seen it but didn’t really take the time to learn about it. That was me. When I finally decided to educate myself and try it out I was happy. I always like to make my own opinion about something. So, despite all the wonderful things I’m about to tell you about Lipsense try it out for yourself and decide if you like it.

What is Lipsense? Lipsense is a unique lipstick because it is waterproof, smudge proof and doesn’t smear off. Hard to believe? It was for me too but now it is my favorite part about wearing lipsense. It really doesn’t smear off. Every time I take a sip of anything I’m drinking and I’m wearing Lipsense I do a double take of my cup because there is no lip print. I can even kiss my husband and girls now without worrying about it getting on them!

Lipsense has an easy application process. You can even combine shades to make your own custom colors. I know we may not want to wear lipstick that long but it is easy to change colors or remove any color with the “oops remover”. I’ve also found that coconut oil is a great substitute for removing the lip color. Yes, that simple!

I took a few photos of the colors I own and how I apply LipSense but I know most people need real demonstrations. So, to help you all out I have partnered with Kelly from LipDolls to teach you everything you need to know. She is amazing at explaining everything and showing you how to do it! I love her videos. So check her Facebook here, her Instagram here and her website here. This is who will help you through the purchasing process. Kelly is uh-mazing!

We both love LipSense so much that we couldn’t keep all the blessing to ourselves. Who else wants to joing us in speaking life into others while looking good at the same time? We are giving away TWO LipSense Collections! So enter yourself and a friend! Remember you have to be subscribed to my blog so if you haven’t done so yet, do it now! Top right of this screen  ( if you are on your computer ) is spot to input your email and if you are on your cell phone you will have to scroll all the way down!

Mini Me Monday: Twinning & Swimming

Hats: Target | Bathing Suits: Gap | Sandals: Old Navy

Wearing a variety in style of dresses is a joy I find in Summer. Next would be swimming. I love swimming. As a child my sister and I basically lived in the pool. Those are my favorite memories of summer as a girl. My mother didn’t know how to swim and so even when she asked us to get out and we didn’t listen, she couldn’t make us. The consequences were often times worth the extra pool time.

Time spent in the pool these last few months has again been my favorite part about summer. I am a woman now but still have the same joy flowing in my soul when in a pool. These days it’s my daughters refusing to get out of the pool and even if they do comply I have to deal with all the tears. It is still worth it. Don’t you agree after seeing their content faces in the most adorable matching swimsuits?

Lyianna & Camrielle,

You have been blessed with not having to go to swim classes but rather having your father teach you both how to swim. Swimming with daddy after work this summer has been what you have looked forward to each day. I pray you still think of him and those times now at whatever age you are reading this. I love you – mom
